We also changed his diet so it was based on turkey (a type of
protein that he did not previously eat). One of the home
medications is a cortisone type preparation and some cats
can develop diabetes as a result of high doses of
cortisone medications for prolonged periods of
time….unfortunately, Kipper was one of those cats!
Kipper’s cortisone
medication was changed to a sort that acts mainly in the
intestine (and so is less likely to cause diabetes). After
three months, we were able to discontinue the insulin
injections he needed while he was diabetic.
Kipper is again doing well eating his
turkey-based diet but he is also allowed to eat one of his
favourite treats….peas!
